EADS
hit by Airbus freighter problems
EADS has declared that it is suspending work on a freight
version of its A380 superjumbo and would focus on the
main passenger version of the troubled project.
Doubts over the freight version of the A380 increased
last week, after US courier firm United Parcel Service
postponed its order for the plane.
Airbus
confirmed earlier this week it was cutting 10,000 jobs
across Europe.
The
firm said on Wednesday that it would axe 8,300 jobs in
France and Germany, as well as 1,600 staff in the UK and
400 in Spain.
Airbus
has been struggling due to production delays to its flagship
A380 passenger jet project, which has cost the firm about
€5 billion ($6.6 billion).
Analysts
said Airbus' move to suspend work on the freighter would
come as welcome news to its competitor Boeing, leaving
the US firm with no major competitor in the market for
large cargo aircraft.

Lenovo
recalls laptop batteries
Lenovo Inc has recalled 100,000 laptop computer batteries
and has warned that they could overheat and cause a fire.
The
batteries have been made by Japan's Sanyo Electric Co
and have received four reports of overheating. In one
case, a user suffered minor eye irritation, the company
said.
Lenovo
said consumers should stop using the recalled products
immediately. It said the batteries can overheat if the
laptop is dropped a certain way, striking the battery
on a corner edge.
The
advisory was made with the US Consumer Product Safety
Commission. Last year's recall hit Sony's fourth-quarter
profits and Sanyo may suffer similarly with this latest
recall.
