Insat-4B to be launched today

Bangalore: The launch of Insat-4B satellite that was to take place on 11 March on Sunday has been delayed by 24 hours due to a technical snag in the launch pad of Ariane-5 at Kourou in French Guyana.

According to a statement posted by Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) on its official website, the satellite was scheduled for launch between 3:55 am and 4:28 am IST on Sunday. However, seven minutes before lift-off, an anomaly was detected in the water deluge system (used to reduce the acoustic levels for the safety of the launch pad).

The launch is now expected to take place in the early hours of March 12. The health of both satellite and launch vehicle is normal and they have been put in safe mode.

As the second satellite in the Insat-4 series, Insat-4B is carrying 12 high power Ku-band (11-14 GHz) transponders and 12 C-band (4-6 GHz) transponders to augment the capacity for Direct-To-Home (DTH) television services and expanding the Insat capacity for other communication and broadcasting services. Insat-4b is the thirteenth Indian satellite to use the European launcher for deployment in the geo-synchronous orbit.

India may become tea-tasting destination
Berlin: The tourism ministry is considering turning India into a tea tasting destination along the lines of Europe being a wine tasting destination.

That, along with holding international conferences, is the new area India plans to focus on as it seeks to boost in-bound tourism in the coming years said Tourism and Culture Minister Ambika Soni.

She said tea-tasting circuits would be developed similar to the wine-tasting tours offered in Europe, she said at a press conference here.

Convention tourism is another area which the government is keen to develop as it holds great potential in India, Soni, who was here to launch "India Incredible" campaign at the International Tourism Exchange, said.

At present, India's share is only about eight per cent of the annual global business of US dollars 280 million generated by convention tourism.
