China's trade surplus at record high
Beijing: China's trade surplus in February rose ten times compared to the same month last year, hitting USD 23.76 billion, negating the government's efforts to restore a more balanced foreign trade, latest customs figures have showed.

While exports in February were 51.7 per cent higher than exports in January, imports rose only 13.1 per cent, less than half the previous month's growth rate, data from the General Administration of Customs said.

China's exports touched USD 82.1 billion in February, while imports were valued at USD 58.34 billion for the month. The country's total trade volume in February touched $140.44 bn, up 32.9 per cent from a year earlier.

The trade surplus for February was nearly 50 per cent higher than it was in January, when it had reach $15.88 billion, which was off more than 20 per cent from last December.

China's trade surplus in February 2006 was only USD 2.45 billion.

China's surging trade surplus is a major concern for the country's major trade partners, especially the United States which claims a weak Yuan is a major contributor to the problem.
