Proposed
Saudi law to restrict commercial jobs
to locals
Dubai: The Saudi Kingdom's Shoura Council has sought
the approval of the Cabinet for a proposed law to limit
employment in commercial establishments, retail and wholesale
shops, distribution companies and among street vendors
to Saudi nationals. If approved by the cabinet, the proposal
would become a law within 120 days from its publication
in the official gazette. It will be implemented gradually
by the ministries of labour and municipal and rural affairs,
the Saudi Gazette said on Wednesday.
However,
underlying its implementation is a clause that mandates
that the law should not conflict with international conventions,
it said.
The
proposed law also sets hours of operation for shops in
the Kingdom. It mandates that all business owners obey
labour and social security regulations.
