Exodus
at Sical Logistics
Chennai: Sical Logistics (SL), which which in port
handling, shipping, trucking and warehousing, services,
is facing a manpower crisis as some senior members of
its management team and middle-level personnel have quit
the firm in last few months.
The
company has lost two of its managing directors along with
three members of its senior management team in the previous
two months, industry sources said.
Those
who have resigned include Ram Kumar, the managing director
of the company and Shankar, the managing director of its
subsidiary Sical Distriparks who have been with the company
since its inception two decades back. Besides these, 25
crucial middle-level personnel had also left in the last
six months.
There
has been a sudden fall in company's turnover and profits
during the last nine months and according to the company's
website which gives details of the second and third quarters
of the current fiscal, profits had dipped by 38 per cent,
with sales coming down to Rs3.89 billion from Rs4.47 billion
during the corresponding period last fiscal.

UAE
prime minister on visit to India
Dubai: Shaikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum UAE's
prime minister is on a two-day visit to India beginning
today. He is visiting India on the invitation of Prime
Minister Manmohan Singh.
Shaikh
Mohammed, also Ruler of Dubai, who took over as UAE prime
minister in January 2006 last visited India in 1974 as
the UAE Defence Minister accompanying his father, the
late Shaikh Rashid bin Saeed Al Maktoum.
Sheikh
Mohammed, accompanied by seven ministers and a high-level
business delegation, During the visit, the two countries
are expected to sign a double taxation protocol though
a double taxation agreement already exists between the
two countries. A visa avoidance agreement on government
officials and diplomats holding passports of either of
the two countries will also be signed to facilitate their
visits.
The
agreements on customs cooperation, exchange of prisoners
between the two countries (an extradition agreement already
exists), on combating international terrorism, money laundering
and other crimes are also on the table. Shaikh Mohammad
would call on Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and
President A P J Abdul Kalam.
