Jain resigns as Walt Disney India MD
Mumbai: Rajat Jain, managing director, Walt Disney
India has resigned from the media and entertainment company
to pursue new opportunities after a three-year stint.
Andy
Bird, president, Walt Disney International said Rajat
came into Walt Disney from the very start and laid a strong
foundation for growth for The Walt Disney Company in India.
Jain
would be working with Bird to oversee management of the
company until a new appointment is made.

S R Varadhan wins Math Nobel Prize
Oslo: Mathematician S R Varadhan, who was born
in India but has settled in the US, has been awarded the
Nobel Prize for mathematics.
According
to the jury, Varadhan was cited for his 'fundamental contributions
to probability theory and in particular for a unified
theory of large deviations'.
Varadhan
teaches at New York University's Courant Institute of
Mathematical Sciences, and his theories have proved useful
in a broad range of fields, including quantum field theory,
statistical physics, population dynamics, econometrics
and finance, and traffic engineering.
The
prize money amounts to $8,50,000 and will be conferred
on him at a ceremony in Oslo later this year.
Varadan
has been in the US for the last four decades and said
he came from south India where mathematicians name Ramanujan's
is extremely well known. Varadhan said Ramanaujam was
a role model for him.
