Rick Wagoner on India visit
New Delhi:
Rick Wagoner, chairman and chief executive officer, General Motors Corporation is starting his India visit India today.

Wagoner's visit is being seen as an exercise to build relations with the Government, since he is to meet the prime minister, Dr Manmohan Singh, and senior Government officials — and also build confidence among the Indian consumers.

Wagoner would also review General Motor's existing operations and future plans and mark the company's launch of the mini car Chevrolet Spark.

Wagoner is visiting India after nine years since his first visit in 1998. According to analysts, his visit is part of GM's worldwide strategy to revive its flagging auto sales.

Wagoner's itinerary includes a visit to the company's R&D and engineering centre in Bangalore on Wednesday.

He would also meet industry associations such as the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers, Confederation of Indian Industry, Automotive Components Manufacturers Association as well as the American Chamber of Commerce in India.
