Rick
Wagoner on India visit
New Delhi: Rick Wagoner, chairman and chief executive
officer, General Motors Corporation is starting his India
visit India today.
Wagoner's
visit is being seen as an exercise to build relations
with the Government, since he is to meet the prime minister,
Dr Manmohan Singh, and senior Government officials
and also build confidence among the Indian consumers.
Wagoner
would also review General Motor's existing operations
and future plans and mark the company's launch of the
mini car Chevrolet Spark.
Wagoner
is visiting India after nine years since his first visit
in 1998. According to analysts, his visit is part of GM's
worldwide strategy to revive its flagging auto sales.
Wagoner's
itinerary includes a visit to the company's R&D and
engineering centre in Bangalore on Wednesday.
He
would also meet industry associations such as the Society
of Indian Automobile Manufacturers, Confederation of Indian
Industry, Automotive Components Manufacturers Association
as well as the American Chamber of Commerce in India.
