Novartis
India Q4 net up at Rs23.90 crore
Mumbai: Novartis India has posted a net profit of
Rs 23.87 crore for the quarter ended March 2007 as against
Rs19.99 crore in the corresponding quarter in 2006.
Total
revenue for the quarter has increased to Rs144.64 crore
against Rs121.52 crore shown in the same period previous
year.
For
the year ended March 2007, the company made a net profit
of Rs88.55 crore against Rs 107.89 crore during 2006.
Total revenue for the year has risen marginally to Rs592.32
crore as compared to Rs591.93 crore in 2006.

UTV
Group to launch eight new channels by March 2008
Dubai: UTV Group is planning to roll-out eight new
channels by March 2008 with half the channels targeted
at young urban viewers. The channel will invest $200 million
in the new channels launch. Four of the channels will
go on air from August 15 this year and the rest by March
2008.
The
company is also going global and is tying up with major
Hollywood production houses. It would produce at least
12 movies a year, including one international title, possibly
in collaboration with players in Hollywood or other places.
UTV
has a market capitalisation of $220 million and is listing
its motion picture arm on London's Alternative Investment
Market next month.

Strides
Arcolab opens facility in Brazil
Mumbai: Pharmaceuticals major Strides Arcolab has
opened its sterile injectable facility at Compos in Rio
de Janeiro, Brazil.
The
facility was built at a cost of $30 million, and would
become a global site for the Strides group's growing sterile
business, according to the company.
The sterile injectable facility at Brazil is for Penems
and Penicillins. Strides Arcolab said the Brazilian operations
would continue to play a significant role in the Strides
growth strategy.
Earlier
in February the UK-based Medicines and Healthcare Products
Regulatory Agency (MHRA) rated the company's sterile products
and antibiotics plant complex in Bangalore as compliant
with the principles and guidelines of good manufacturing
practices.

German
firm Klockner to open facility in India: to make India
R&D hub
New Delhi: German company Klockner Pentaplast (KP),
which makes packaging material, is planning to set up
a pharmaceutical films manufacturing facility in Aurangabad,
Maharashtra with an investment of of Rs 83.25 crore.
The
greenfield facility would have a capacity of 15,000 tonne
per annum, and would begin operations by the first quarter
of 2008.
The
company is also planning to make India a hub for its pharma
packaging research in Asia.
The
company said India is a key market in Asia with major
pharmaceutical companies here being its customers. It
plans to invest $20 million in a new pharmaceutical film
making facility here, which would cater to both the domestic
and the export market.
The
company would make India a hub for pharmaceutical packaging
solutions in Asia, and anticipates revenues of $30 million
in the first year of operations.
The
company has been present in India since January 2006,
and had closed the previous fiscal with revenues of $10
million.
