Yahoo
expands online advertising partnership
New York: Yahoo Inc has expanded its online advertising
partnership with U.S. newspapers to include McClatchy
Co. More than more than 264 newspapers have tied up with
Yahoo in the hope that the partnership will increase Internet
advertising revenue as they can reache a wider audience
through a network of newspaper sites including Belo Corp.,
EW Scripps Co., and Lee Enterprises.
However,
two large publishers Tribune Co. and Gannett Co. Inc have
refused to join the group. These publish some of the largest
newspapers in the country, including the Los Angeles Times
and USA Today. The companies are said to be working on
their own advertising network.
Yahoo
and the newspapers will share ad revenue.
Newspapers
are anxious to capitalize on Internet opportunities as
their paid print circulation declines and advertising
sales are slowing down because of competition from other
media, primarily television and the Internet.

Wal-Mart's
image improves: survey
New York: A recent poll of Wal-Mart Stores Inc by
a critic group revealed that a greater number of consumers
had a more favorable view of the world's largest retailer
than a year ago. Out of 1,000 respondents, 71 percent
of people had a "somewhat favorable" view of
Wal-Mart, up from 69 percent in a 2006 survey, but down
from 76 percent in 2005. 27 percent said they had a more
negative opinion of Wal-Mart than they did a year earlier.
Union-backed
groups like Wal-Mart Watch and WakeUpWalMart.com have
for many years conducted grass-roots campaigns to draw
attention to what they regard as poverty-level wages,
inadequate health care and other issues at Wal-Mart.
