22 Jun 2007
The chairman of the chiefs of staff committee and Indian Army chief, General JJ Singh is undertaking an official visit to France and the UK from 24 Jun to 02 Jul 2007.
The visit to France and UK by the army chief of staff comes at a time when defence cooperation with these European countries is at an all time high. The joint activities that the defence services are undertaking with France and UK encompass visits; joint exercises, training exchanges, equipment procurement and participation in seminars and conferences.
It is expected that the visit by Gen JJ Singh will add necessary impetus to the existing defence relationship and broad base it further into a mutually beneficial partnership.
During his visit, Gen JJ Singh will interact with senior military and civilian defence officials and also discuss various contemporary defence related issues between the two countries.
In addition, visits to important Joint Service bases and operational HQs have also been planned.
In France, he will also pay homage at the Neuve Chappelle in France, a memorial in the memory of the Indian soldiers who laid down their lives during the World Wars.
He has also been invited to address an elite audience at International Institute of Strategic Studies in London on the subject, 'Indian Armed Forces: Present and Future Perspective'.
