14 Jul 2008
Farnborough, London: The latest addition to Indian flag carrier, Air India's fleet, a new Boeing 777-300ER (Extended Range), has been put on display at the Farnborough International Air Show here. The biennial event, held near London, opens for business and display on Monday. The aircraft will highlight the carrier's livery, interior and passenger amenities.
The aircraft arrived in Farnborough on Saturday, ahead of Monday's opening. This 777-300ER is the tenth such aircraft delivered to Air India from its December 2005 order of 68 Boeing jetliners, a Boeing statement said.
The aircraft, named ''Jammu & Kashmir'' in keeping with Air India's tradition of naming its 777s after the various states of India, has a three-class configuration, including four first-class, 35 executive class and 303 economy seats.
The airline will operate the 777-300ER on its India to United States via London route.
Air India, in July 2007, became the first India-based airline to operate nonstop flights from India to the United States with its first 777-200LR (Longer Range) Worldliner airplane.
The twin-engine Boeing 777 is the most fuel-efficient airplane in its category, Boeing said.
