18 Aug 2008
Boeing Co announced over the weekend that it has completed work on the first BBJ 3 business jet based on the Boeing Next-Generation 737-900ER.
The company said that the BBJ 3 offers more floor and interior space than the BBJ 2 and has 89 per cent more luggage space.
It has a range of between 5,435 nmi (10,066 km) and 4,725 nmi (8,751 km), depending on the number of passengers on board.
The aircraft is currently receiving its long-range fuel tanks and a Head-up Display after which it will undergo a two-month certification process prior to being delivered to an unnamed customer for installation of a customised interior.
All BBJ aircraft feature Blended Winglets (wing tip extensions) to reduce noise and emissions and increase range.
BBJs currently being delivered by Boeing also feature lower cabin altitude and Future Air Navigation System technology.
