Chinese commercial airplane market worth $390 billion over next 20 years: Boeing
29 Oct 2008
The Boeing Company has issued its 2008 Current Market Outlook (CMO) for the China region, forecasting a market for 3,710 new airplanes worth about $390 billion over the next 20 years.
Also, worldwide, Boeing projects investments of $3.2 trillion for 29,400 new commercial airplanes to be delivered during the next 20 years.
According to the CMO, air travel and cargo market growth will cause China's fleet to more than triple to 4,560 airplanes by 2027. This is about the same number of airplanes as in Europe today.
Propelled by the world's fast-growing domestic market, single-aisle airplanes will account for 70 per cent of the new purchases, according to the forecast, which should result in 2,600 new airplane deliveries.
Boeing projects approximately 780 deliveries for intermediate twin-aisles, such as the 787 Dreamliner and the 777. It said, together, the single-aisle and intermediate twin-aisle market will make up 91 per cent of China's total deliveries.
It said there would also be a demand for approximately100 large airplanes (747-size and larger) to serve international routes.
Chinese air carriers will also add about 370 freighter airplanes by 2027, the study said.
