Mangalore: The Mangalore International Airport, located at Bajpe, is set to increase its importance as a destination on India's west coast by offering direct operations to Kuwait. This has become possible after Air India Express (AIE) launched direct flights to Kuwait yesterday.
AIE, Air India's low cost offering, already offers connections to Dubai and various other destinations in the Middle East.
The route, as launched, will originate in Kozhikode and stop over at Mangalore before flying to Kuwait direct. It will have one stop over at Sharjah.
The inaugural flight carried 87 passengers from Mangalore to Kuwait. According to the airport officials the flight began its journey to Kuwait via Mangalore and arrived at Bajpe at 6.05 pm and took off from Bajpe airport at 7.40pm.
The direct flight, which earlier used to cost approximately Rs21,000 for a single seat, would now be available at half the price.
