Singapore Airlines aims doubling of services to Delhi, Bangalore

Singapore: Top global airline, Singapore Airlines, is planning to double the frequency of its flights to India's political capital, New Delhi and IT capital, Bangalore. "For the current year we hope to be able to increase our flights to New Delhi and Bangalore," Singapore Airlines' regional vice president (West Asia and Africa) Lee Lik Hsin said here.
Lee, who is also responsible for the carrier's India operations, said the increase in services can only occur after approval is granted by the respective governments of India and Singapore for an increase in services.
CW Foo, general manager, India, said the carrier plans to introduce seven additional weekly flights - five from Delhi and two from Bangalore. These would take the number of services from the two destinations to 14 and 12 respectively.
According to Lee, the carrier was sticking to its expansion plans, inspite of a global downturn in the fortunes of the aviation industry. He said that India was very important for the carrier and that it would manage short term fluctuations and not let these dictate the carrier's long term strategy.
