Air India to reduce capacity on international sectors
05 Aug 2008
New Delhi: In tandem with cost cutting measures being adopted by other airlines both domestically and internationally, flag carrier, Air India, has plans to reduce the number of flights on international sectors.
It has already implemented a plan to reduce air fares on international routes, which have come down by 5–20 per cent on different sectors. It has already reduced domestic capacity by nearly 15%.
''We are planning to cut some flights on international routes to contain losses. The final decision on the number of sectors where we would withdraw operation would be taken shortly,'' an Air India official said.
According to industry sources, Air India is likely to withdraw services on the Delhi-Los Angeles sector, where it operates three flights a week. The service was launched in 2004.
According to ministry of civil aviation statements, Air India intends to save about Rs1,000 crore over the next 12 months through rationalisation of routes.
