Air France, unions avoid vacation season strike
25 Jul 2011
Paris: Air France has avoided a four-day strike timed for the peak of the vacation season by reaching a deal with flight attendants' unions. Workers accused the company of trying to economize on staff and breaching a 2007 labour accord.
Seven unions had called for a strike on 29 July-1 August, spread over a weekend when large numbers of French citizens head off for traditional August holidays. The prospect left the government and travellers worried.
Without providing details, the unions and the airline announced Saturday that the strike call was dropped.
