Mumbai: Airlines have started raising fares after oil companies hiked aviation turbine fuel (ATF) prices. The first one off the block is India's largest airline, Jet Airways, which increased fuel surcharge by Rs200 on its domestic flights from Saturday. Other domestic airlines are expected to follow suit over the next few days.

Industry observers said they expect announcements to be made in a staggered manner in a bid to avoid accusation of cartelization.

Jet said it will increase fuel surcharge by Rs200 per domestic sector which will be applicable on all flights of Jet Airways, Jet Airways Konnect and JetLite, for sale and travel effective 17 September 2011.

Jet Airways currently operates a fleet of 97 aircraft, and operates to 75 destinations across the length and breadth of India and outside.

Jet Airways, Jet Airways Konnect and JetLite have a combined fleet strength of 115 aircraft and operate over 620 flights daily.
