Incheon, South Korea: New Delhi's Indira Gandhi International (IGI) airport and South Korea's Incheon International Airport are now 'sister airports' – an arrangement that will allow them to share technical, commercial and environmental best practices.
In a first for IGI, a sister airport agreement was signed by GMR Airports Holding (GAHL), the operators of IGI, with the Incheon International Airport Corporation (IIAC).
GMR also operates GMR Hyderabad International Airport Ltd (GHIAL) in Hyderabad.
Kiran Kumar Gandhi, chairman (airports) GMR Group and PS Nair, CEO (corporate) GMR Airports signed the agreement with CW Lee, president and CEO of Incheon Airport at Incheon.
The agreement envisages the establishment of joint working groups for cooperation in areas like airport operations and management, customer service, construction, planning, operations, information technology and sustainable development.
"The agreement encompasses establishment of joint training programmes under the aegis of GMR Aviation Academy and Incheon Airport Aviation Academy both accredited by ACI as its global training hubs," a statement from GMR said.
