Luxury car-maker Mercedes-Benz India on Wednesday unveiled its new E-Class Coupe. "The E-Class Coupe is the most aerodynamic series production car in the world. It comes with an aggressive price tag of Rs54.83 lakh onwards ex-showroom in Mumbai," Mercedes-Benz India's managing director and chief executive officer Wilfried Aulbur told reporters at the unveiling.

The E-Class Coupe has state-of-the-art technology and high safety standards, which meets the needs of young individuals looking for a car that is athletic, striking and passionate, Aulbur said. The car will be retailed through Mercedes-Benz dealerships across the country.

The muscular and lithe-looking coupe comes with a powerful yet smooth 3.6 litre V6 petrol engine that promises to deliver all of 272 horse power. It comes with a aerodynamic drag coefficient of just 0.24. The product was declared the 'most good-looking coupé' by Chicago Athenaeum - Museum of Architecture and Design and also received 'Good Design Award' from by Auto Bilt, Germany.

Based on the W204 platform, the Coupe shares its platform with the C-class rather than the E-class after which it is named. This discrepancy in designation is explained by the fact that the   Coupe shares more than 60 per cent of its components and technology with the E-class.

The company is planning to launch more models and expand with showrooms and dealerships in Tier-2 and Tier-3 markets like Goa, Bhubhaneshwar, Indore, Aurangabad and Surat, Aulbur said.

Mercedes-Benz India is also exploring possibilities of bringing its financial services arm to India. "This would provide a boost to our commercial vehicles business in India, where the company sells high-end buses and trucks," Aulbur said.
