After a month of starting Model S deliveries in the UK, Tesla Motors Inc, said its flagship electric sedan was among the cars being considered for purchase by the UK government, Bloomberg reported.

The Government Car Service, which provides vehicles for UK ministers would make the initial purchases under a programme for acquisition of over 150 ultra-low emission vehicles, according to the UK's Department for Transport.

The government had earmarked £5 million for the programme, according to a release.

According to Simon Sproule, Palo Alto, California-based Tesla's spokesman the Model S, the company understood what would be under evaluation for inclusion. The sedan was among the cars on display at a press conference, and ''it would be great to see California-built Teslas transporting Her Majesty's ministers on official business across London,'' UK-born Sproule said.

The Elon Musk-led company was stepping up overseas deliveries under a plan to increase production by over 50 per cent this year. Deliveries of right-hand-drive Teslas to the UK, where the car is priced from £50,280 pounds, started in June with Musk inaugurating the start of shipments to China in April.

According to Sproule, customers in Hong Kong would start getting cars new week.
