Volkswagen, Nissan to eye sub-4 metre compact class

Volkswagen and Nissan are now following other car manufactures to gain a market share in the growing sub-4-metre compact class, where

larger car makerslike Maruti Suzuki, Hyundai, Tata Motors, Honda and even Mahindra all have at least one product.

Meanwhile The Economic Times said in a report, the Japanese car maker had commissioned a study to assess the market potential before it entered the compact SUV segment.

The report added, the Volkswagen India spokesperson said the company was indeed considering entering into the compact SUV segment and also sub-4 metre sedan. The report quoted a source close to Volkswagen product development as saying, the company expected the first set of new products from Volkswagen to enter the market in 2016.

The company hoped to bring in incremental volumes of 40,000 to 60,000 units per annum depending on the market condition.

As far as Nissan Motor India was concerned, the company could come up with a sub-4 metre Sunny and sub-4 metre SUV as key products of their portfolio. It had were 10 products for thevIndian market till 2016-17.
