Emirates take delivery of its tenth A380 superjumbo

07 Jun 2010

Airbus handed over the 30th A380 superjumbo it has manufactured to one of the aircraft's launch customers, the Emirates Airline. For this Arab carrier, which has a total firm order for 58 aircraft, this is its tenth A380 delivery.

So far, in 2010, Airbus has delivered seven A380s. Of these three have been delivered to Emirates Airline, two to Air France, one to Lufthansa and one to Qantas.

The Toulouse, France-based manufacturer has said it is on track to deliver a total of at least 20 of these super jumbos in 2010.

As of now, five major airlines, Singapore Airlines, Emirates Airline, Qantas, Air France and Lufthansa, operate 30 A380s on twenty routes that link 18 major international destinations. So far these super jumbos have carried nearly five and a half million passengers and have also saved 640,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions by replacing journeys that would otherwise have been made with less fuel-efficient large aircraft.

The A380, reputedly, has the lowest fuel burn of any wide-body aircraft, needing less than three litres of fuel per passenger per 100km.

Airbus has in hand 202 firm orders for the A380 from 17 customers.
