Farnborough Air Show: GE Aviation, CFM International notch up business worth $3 billion

GE Aviation and CFM International, a joint venture company of GE Aviation and French Snecma, have notched up almost $3 billion in business at the Farnborough air show in the United Kingdom during the week.

The announced deals include an order from Dublin-based aircraft leasing company AWAS for CFM56-5B engines that will power 45 A320 Airbus aircraft, along with options for another 55 aircraft. The firm order for the engines works out to over $600 million at current list prices.

Additionally, a decade long agreement with GE Aviation's OnPoint Solutions unit has also been inked to maintain and overhaul Southwest Airlines' over 660 CFM56-7B engines, as well as 200 that are on order.

The agreement is valued at over $2 billion over the 10 – year period.

An airline operated by the government of Nigeria, Arik Air, has also ordered GEnx engines to power seven Boeing 787 aircraft, and GE90-115B engines for five Boeing 777-300ER (extended range) and 777-200LR (long range) aircraft. The order is valued at over $500 million at list prices.

Similarly, Nasdaq listed Atlas Air Worldwide Holdings Inc., which operates cargo airlines Atlas Air and Polar Air Cargo Worldwide, signed up for upgrade kits for GE's CF6-80C2 engines that power its Boeing 747-400F aircraft
