Air India directed to un-seal union office

The Delhi high court has directed Air India to unlock the offices of the employee's union, which were sealed following a flash strike by the workers a month ago.

The court yesterday also asked the management of the national carrier to explain its decision to de-recognise the union for resorting to strike.

Justice M C Garg who headed a vacation bench has asked the management to file its response by 7 July when the case would be taken up for further hearing.

Air India, in an unprecedented crackdown, on 27 May had de-recognised its trade union, Air Corporation Employees Union (ACEU), sealed its office and sacked 58 employees.
The union was de-recongised along with the All India Aircraft Engineers' Association (AIAEA).

Both unions had, on 25 May, called a flash strike to protest a 'gag order' directing the office-bearers of National Aviation Company of India Ltd (NACIL) trade union to refrain from making public statements and harming the image of the company following the 22 May Mangalore air crash.
