bmi set to launch Amritsar-Heathrow services

Mumbai: Come October, UK carrier, British Midland International (bmi), a group airline of the German carrier Lufthansa, will commence its India operations with a Amritsar-London Heathrow service, a statement from the company said. This will be a tri-weekly service.

The airline is offering promotional fares of Rs39,428 for a return ticket on its economy seats. British midland international will use an Airbus 330 type aircraft with 36 business class seats and 196 economy seats.

"We are delighted to serve customers in India with convenient schedules and a direct service to London. Business and leisure customers now have a real choice and greater flexibility when traveling to London, connecting regionally within the UK or flying onward with one of our partner airlines," said Joerg Hennemann, chief commercial officer, bmi.

The commencing of operations however, depends on the government approval, the statement said.

British midland international is a member of Star Alliance, an airline alliance group. Star Alliance network offers 21,000 daily flights to 1,160 airports in 181 countries.
