CBI approaches Interpol for Vijay Mallya’s arrest

13 May 2016

With the United Kingdom having refused to deport debt-ridden businessman Vijay Mallya, the Central Bureau of Investigation has issued a Red Corner Notice (RCN) him to the Interpol headquarters for his arrest.

In a recent turn of events, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) had written to the CBI to issue a RCN against the liquor baron, which got approved later today.

CNBC-TV18 reports that the CBI has submitted supporting documents against Mallya to Interpol for examination and is now waiting for the global police body to accept its request.

The ED had obtained a non-bailable warrant against Mallya in a money-laundering case last month and has been trying to bring him back to India in order to settle outstanding debt of Rs9,000 crore owed to lenders to his failed Kingfisher Airlines.

Mallya has failed to present himself before the ED despite multiple notices being issued to him, saying that he has been in forced exile and the banks will get no money by taking his passport or by arresting him.
