Kingfisher cancels 50 flights; passengers in a lurch

10 Nov 2011

New Delhi/Bangalore/Mumbai: With cash-strapped Kingfisher Airlines announcing it was cancelling 50 flights every day starting Wednesday, up from 34 announced a day earlier, thousands of passengers across the country scrambled to re-book tickets on other carriers, often at premiums of upto 20 per cent.

The carrier said these services would remain cancelled till 19 November. All the services, except two which are international, are domestic.

The struggling carrier also said it would provide details of cancellations to take place in the coming weeks in a couple of days.

As before, passengers were not informed in time about Kingfisher's cancellations, resulting in chaos at airports across the country.

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation has sent Kingfisher a notice over the sudden cancellations and asked it to respond by Thursday, following which the aviation authorities will determine the action to be taken against the airline.
