No discounted fares on Air India’s night flights

Mumbai: Air India has withdrawn the low fares that it offered on domestic night flights within India, doubling the fares on these flights in certain sectors. According to airline officials, the average fare hike on all night flights could be around 70 per cent.

Air India, which primarily operates on international routes, connects key Indian cities during the night. Its sister airline, Indian, is the domestic operator that also flies on some international routes.

Now, airline officials say that with the merger between the two carriers already in motion, passengers have enough alternatives as they can fly with Indian during day hours.

With the hike in fares Air India night flights will now be comparable with day fares. A Mumbai-Delhi night flight will now cost Rs6,320 instead of the earlier discounted fare of Rs3,300.

Once the two carriers are fully merged into one entity as the National Aviation Co. of India Ltd, or Nacil, all services of the two airlines will then be grouped under the Air India brand.
