Pawan Hans signs MoU with India Post for logistics service

Pawan Hans Helicopters Ltd (PHLL), a central government undertaking under the ministry of civil aviation, has entered into a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with India Post of the Department of Posts under the ministry of communication and information technology to provide it with complete logistics solutions.

R K Tyagi, chairman and managing director (CMD) of Pawan Hans and John Samuel, general manager, business development of India Post, signed the MoU on 21 December 2009, an official release said.

The MoU will be valid initially for a period of 2 years and is renewable on mutually acceptable terms and conditions and will be open for support within India and abroad, the release said.

The government, last week, approved purchase of seven 'Dauphin' helicopters by Pawan Hans Helicopters for Rs392.50 crore.

Pawan Hans had, on 4 March 2009, signed a memorandum of agreement with France-based Eurocopter for seven Dauphin AS- 365 N3 helicopters.  The government panel on infrastructure has also approved additional orders by Pawan Hans with Eurocopter as an option that can be exercised with the state-run firm.

"This will enable Pawan Hans Helicopters Ltd to augment capacity for growth and meet additional requirement of offshore operations," an official statement said.

Pawan Hans Helicopters Ltd (PHHL), the national helicopter company of India, was incorporated in 1985 with 78.5 per cent shareholding of the Government of India and 21.5 per cent by ONGC.

Pawan Hans Helicopters, originally incorporated with the objective of providing helicopter support services to the oil sector for its offshore operations, services in remote and hilly areas and charter services for promotion of tourism, is now expanding operations into other areas also.
