Singapore: Singapore Airlines Ltd said Tuesday it had ordered eight more Boeing 777-300ERs, valued at $2.3 billion at list prices, in a bid to support its growth plans. Deliveries will commence in the 2013-2014 financial year.

The aircraft join Singapore Airlines' existing fleet of 19 B777-300 ERs, and will be operated on medium and long-haul routes.

The aircraft, to be powered by General Electric GE90 engines, will be configured in a three-class layout.

Goh Choon Phong, chief executive officer of Singapore Airlines said, "These additional B777-300ERs will help support our ongoing programme to further strengthen the Singapore Airlines network, providing more travel options to our customers. The order is in line with our longstanding policy of operating a young and modern fleet. This enables us to offer our latest cabin products which have proven extremely popular with our customers."

Singapore Airlines' fleet comprises 106 wide-body aircraft from Airbus and Boeing, with an average age of 6 years and 4 months.

The company noted that with the latest order it will now have firm purchase or lease orders with the two manufacturers for another 70 aircraft.
