New Delhi: Gurgaon-based low-cost carrier SpiceJet has said it has placed an order for 30 Boeing aircraft for $2.7 billion slated for delivery between 2014 and 2018.

''We have a board approval for acquisition of 30 new Boeing 737-800 aircraft at a cost of $2.7 billion. The delivery will start from 2014,'' said Spicejet director Ajay Singh.

The airline currently operates a fleet of 21 Boeing 737-800 and 737-900 aircraft and is poised to induct seven more in the current financial year.

''We will induct seven aircraft this year and plan to induct an equal number or slightly more by the end of the next financial year. We plan to have 50 aircraft by 2014,'' said Singh.

These are revised numbers as the carrier had earlier announced plans to induct just four aircraft in the current financial. The larger numbers reflect an upbeat assessment of market conditions.

The airline also confirmed commencement of international operations start from September.
