Pune: In order to keep pace with the fast consolidating Indian aviation market, low-cost airline, SpiceJet, has announced that it is further expanding its fleet and also focusing on costs. The airline has also announced that it will add new destinations on its flight calendar, as well.

The airline is set to induct a 212-seater, Boeing 737-900 ER this month. Three more of these aircraft will join its fleet in 2008, according to executive chairman, Siddhant Sharma. With these inductions, the total aircraft strength of the airline would go up to 22.

According to Sharma, the airline was inducting these aircraft to fly on slots where it was difficult to get time, and so it was important to accommodate more people on aircraft. He said that these aircraft would be put to service on routes connecting Delhi, Goa, Mumbai and Ahmedabad.

The airline currently flies to 17 destinations and will add Bagdogra (Darjeeling) to its flight plans once the new aircraft are inducted.
