SpiceJet to resumes Bangkok services with daily flight from Kolkata

18 Aug 2014

SpiceJet, India's second largest low-cost carrier, will resume services to Bangkok, this time with a new daily flight from Kolkata. The services, which are also the airline's first direct international operations from Kolkata, will start from 25 September.

SpiceJet used to earlier operate to Bangkok from Bengaluru and Pune. It decided to discontinue its Pune-Bangkok direct flight service from March 2014 due to route viability.

The carrier will deploy Boeing 737 Next Generation aircraft on this route.

SpiceJet will fly to Bangkok's Suvarnabhoomi airport from Kolkata, from where numerous onward domestic and international connections are available.

''We believe there is tremendous opportunity in the Kolkata–Bangkok market, and this flight will also connect passengers to and from other Indian destinations to Bangkok via Kolkata,'' said Sanjiv Kapoor, chief operating officer, SpiceJet.

The airline has timed the launch of the flight to coincide with the start of the Durga Puja holidays and festive season.

"With Thailand offering visa-on-arrival for Indians, and with our low introductory fare, there is no excuse now to postpone that long-planned Thailand holiday,'' he added.

SpiceJet is offering an all-inclusive introductory promotional one-way fare of Rs2,999 (Kolkata-Bangkok) or THB1,499 (Bangkok-Kolkata) for a limited period.

SpiceJet is India's second largest low fare airline. The airline currently operates more than 331 daily flights to 47 destinations, which includes 40 Indian and 7 international cities.

It connects its network using fleet of 32 Boeing 737-800 and six Boeing 737-900ER aircraft, along with 15 Bombardier Q-400 aircraft that are used for Tier II and Tier III cities.
