Greater Noida airport proposal to come up for consideration

30 Jan 2008

New Delhi: The fate of the international airport near Greater Noida will be taken up for discussion on Thursday by a group of ministers (GoM), headed by finance minister, P Chidambaram. The proposal, put forward by the Uttar Pradesh government, has drawn a protest from the GMR Group, which has been awarded the contract for modernising the airport at Delhi.

All legal issues related to the rights of the GMR Group would be taken up for consideration at the meeting. The GMR Group fears loss of business and revenue if the proposal of the Uttar Pradesh government should be accepted.

Law minister, HR Bhardwaj, and civil aviation minister, Praful Patel, are the other members of the GoM. Required legal expertise will also be made available to the panel.

According to rules, no international airport is allowed to come up within 150 km of another.
