SFC tests Prithvi II, Dhanush

Balasore: India's nuclear-capable, short range ballistic missile, the Prithvi-II, was today test- fired from the Integrated Test Range (ITR) at Chandipur, about 15 km from here off Orissa coast, as part of a user trial by the Strategic Forces Command (SFC), sources said.

The missile was part of a routine production batch.

The test took place within an hour of another test of the naval variant of the Prithvi, the Dhanush, which was fired from a naval ship.

"Prithvi-II missile, which has a maximum range of 350 km, was test fired from a mobile launcher at the Launch Complex-3 in the ITR" at around 1100 hours, defence sources said.

They also said trials of both the Dhanush, fired from a warship between Paradip and Puri, and the Prithvi-II were successful.

"Prithvi-II missile has proved its robustness and accuracy repeatedly during many trials earlier," a Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) official said.
