Paris: Air France has announced that it has placed new orders with both Airbus and Boeing that will see it adding 50 more planes to its fleet, at a cost of up to $7 billion.

Air France will now add two more Airbus A380 superjumbos to its existing order of ten, making a total of 12 A380 planes on order, with options for two more. It has also ordered 30 A320s from the Airbus family, along with 18 B777s from Boeing.

The airline announced that the new order for the Airbus A380 was part of a compensation  agreement it had negotiated with Airbus to cover initial delays, and that this agreement would also carry an undisclosed sum of cash penalties.
