Paris Air Show: Jet Airways orders 13 new ATR 72-500s

22 Jun 2007

Le Bourget, Paris: Regional turboprop maker, ATR, has announced orders for 13 new ATR 72-500 aircraft from Indian carrier Jet Airways at the Paris Air Show. Of the 13, agreement for six of the aircraft has been concluded directly with the Irish-based leasing company AIR (Aircraft International Renting), a subsidiary of TAT leasing, with Jet Airways concluding purchase agreements for the remaining seven.

Jet has signed up for the seven in order to ensure aircraft delivery positions, but intends to conclude lease agreements for them as well, prior to delivery.

The total value of the two contracts is approximately $238 million.

ATR has said that the 13 aircraft will be equipped with the latest technological innovations in passenger comfort, communications and navigation aid tools.

Deliveries will start in 2007 and will continue through 2010.

The new acquisitions will add to Jet Airways current fleet of 8 ATR 72-500s. A larger ATR fleet will  allow the airline to open new routes and increase some frequencies across the Indian subcontinent in the future.
