Paris Air Show: Raytheon to tie-up with Tata Power, make Indian firms part of global supply chain

Le Bourget, Paris: US Defence major, Raytheon, said at the Paris Air Show that it is planning to take forward its tie-up with Tata Power by focusing on electronic and avionics related technologies that could be marketed globally.

"We are in the process of getting US export licences that will allow us to work with Tata Power on specific projects," Wesley Motooka, vice-president of Raytheon's Space and Airborne Systems, told PTI at the Paris Air Show.

Raytheon was evaluating costs for joint projects the two companies could work on, Motooka said. The US company established a tie-up with Tata Power in February this year.

Tata Power has been the recipient of some important Indian defence contracts over the years.

Motooka also said that the two companies would like to bid for global markets. He, however, did not provide details of the specific projects that the two firms would work on.

The official also revealed that they had carried out a survey of Indian companies in order to identify potential partners, and would be closing agreements with a "couple more," quite likely by July.

Raytheon was also in dialogue with the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and "a private sector company" for joint research and development.

The tie-ups between Raytheon and Indian firms would cater to the Indian market, and spread further afield, to its global supply chain, the official said.
