New Delhi: At a combined meeting of the civil aviation ministry and the Delhi Government, chaired by civil aviation minister, Praful Patel, the Delhi government has provided an assurance that it would take some urgent steps aimed at speeding up construction of a world-class airport in Delhi.

Towards this end, the city government has decided to move underground sewage channels, water supply pipes and power lines, all of which would help facilitate the construction of a new runway.

Delhi chief minister, Shiela Dikshit, assured the aviation ministry of full cooperation that would help get a world-class airport ready for operation before the 2010 Asian Games.
At the meeting she also provided the assurance that residents of Shahbad village, near the IGI Airport, would be relocated to another location soon.

According to a senior ministry official, a proposed gas pipeline of the Indian Oil Corporation would also need to be diverted for construction of the new runway.

Besides the Delhi government, officials of the Airports Authority of India, Delhi International Airport Limited, Delhi Jal Board and Delhi Transco Limited also attended the meeting.
