Films Division to unveil new logo at diamond jubilee finale

Films Division will unveil its new logo today at the grand finale of its diamond jubilee celebration. Noted film maker Yash Chopra and information and broadcasting secretary Sushma Singh will be the chief guests and cine artiste Gracy Singh will be present along with several veteran film makers and documentary producers.

The highlight of the diamond jubilee function is the premier of documentary film Mohd. Rafi: We Remember You directed by Kuldeep Sinha, chief producer, Films Division.

Outlining the role of cinema in contemporary India, Sinha said, "A film can tell more than a book and you need not be literate to understand it. That's why a medium like cinema is all the more relevant in a rural dominant country like ours."

Sinha also outlined the efforts being made by Films Division to digitise its archives and making it available on DVD format for wider consumption.

Over the last 60 years, the Films Division has produced over 8,500 titles.

Altogether 60 select films, tele-films and documentaries will be screened over 3-days, marking the closing ceremony of Diamond Jubilee Celebrations. Gandhi - An Emerging Reality, Khajuraho, Seven Islands,  Gandharva Veda, Little Terrorist, Tsunami, The House that Ananda Built, Story of Kashmir  and The Good Shephard are among the films being screened.

In addition, biographical films on India's finest musicians like Pt. Bhimsen Joshi, Ustad Bismillah Khan, Ustad Allah Rakha, and film makers Sohrab Modi, Raj Kapoor, B R Chopra and Nargis will also be shown. There will also be an Open Fourm, coordinated by the Indian Documentaries Producers Association, hosting discussions on themes as diverse as 'Evolution of Documentary' and 'Need for dedicated Documentary Channel.'
