Lashkar terrorists targeting PM, Parliament in New Year: report

Amidst India-Pakistan bonhomie, Pakistan-based terror group Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) is planning attacks on Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Indian Parliament and various other locations in the country during New Year, intelligence agencies have alerte, media reports said.

The reports quoting intelligence agencies have warned that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Parliament building may be high on the radar of the terror group. The LeT may also target nuclear installations and the Army Headquarters at South Block, the reports said.

According to the reports, about 20 terrorists may have entered the country from across the border to carry out the attacks.

Following the alert, the centre had called a second meeting of state police heads and has asked all states to be extra vigilant to thwart any attempt by terrorists and subversive elements to disrupt peace, particularly at popular tourist destinations, during New Year festivities.

States have also been asked to deploy additional forces in crowded places like railway stations, bus terminus, markets and religious places to foil attempts by terrorists to carry out attacks.

The police forces of major cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad and Goa have been asked to be extra vigilant during the upcoming New Year celebrations, said intelligence officials.
