Schools closed as BSF Jawan, minor girl killed in Pak firing

A Border Security Force (BSF) Head Constable and a minor girl were killed in an exchange of fire between Indian and Pakistani troops in R S Pura area in the international border while an eight-year-old girl was found dead in Hiranagar tehsil of Kathua district of Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday.

The soldier and a girl were killed last night in ''unprovoked'' firing from across the international Border in R S Pura, forcing retaliatory fire from the Indian side, official sources said.

The slain BSF Jawan was identified as Head Constable A Suresh of 78 Batallion. He hailed from Tamil Nadu, said an official.

He also said that the girl, identified as Sabity (aged about 13 - 14 yearrs), was also killed in cross-border firing.

The girl was hit at the house of her maternal uncle at Pindi Charkan village of Arnia.

The district administration has ordered the closure of all schools located within five-kilometre radius from the International Border in Jammu in view of cross-border firing.

''The district administration has asked all its officers to remain in a state of highest preparedness in view of continuous ceasefire violations by Pakistan,'' said

The opposition on Thursday staged a walkout from the Legislative Assembly to protest against the murder of an eight-year-old girl of Bakerwal community in Kathua district of Jammu and Kashmir.

The eight-year-old girl, who had gone missing a week ago, was found dead under mysterious circumstances in Hiranagar tehsil of Kathua district of Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday, triggering protests.

Reports said the district administration has asked all its officers to remain in a state of highest preparedness in view of continuous ceasefire violations by Pakistan.

The opposition today staged a walkout from the legislative assembly to protest against the murder of an eight-year-old girl of Bakerwal community in Kathua district of Jammu and Kashmir.

Meanwhile, Additional Deputy Commissioner Jammu, Arun Manhas said that the BSF troopers were giving a befitting reply to Pakistani firing.

He said that the schools located within a radius of five kilometres from the border have also been ordered to remain closed.
