Nagarjuna Agro Chemicals to commercialise ICAR’s soil moisture indicator

Nagarjuna Agro Chemicals Pvt Ltd will commercially manufacture and market a new soil moisture indicator developed by Sugarcane Breeding Institute, an institute under the Indian Council of Agriculture Research (ICAR), located in Coimbatore.

NRDE, which has been appointed as the nodal agency for commercialising and licensing the product, has transferred the technical know-how for manufacture of the soil moisture indicator in the country.

Soil moisture indicator is a simple and user-friendly electronic device developed by the Sugarcane Breeding Institute. The intellectual property rights of the technology are being protected under Indian Patent and Design Acts.

The technical know-how has now been licensed to Nagarjuna Agro Chemicals Pvt Ltd., Hyderabad. The company plans to take this technology forward to all the parts of the country through a network of dealers and also promoting through different support schemes of the department of agricultural and other allied departments in various states of the country.

This initiative of NRDC is in line with the government's `Make in India' initiative. NRDC has licensed more than 200 technologies to start-ups, MSMEs and corporates in the agriculture sector.
