Complete C'wealth projects or get blackballed, Dixit warns contractors

Obviously worried that several Commonwealth Games-related projects are still struggling to meet the deadline, Delhi chief minister Shiela Dixit issued a warning to contractors constructing roads, pavements and other infrastructure for the games.

Any delay beyond the 31 August, the deadline for completion of all games-related projects, will lead to penalising and blacklisting of the contractor, she said on Saturday.

At a meeting with the contractors involved in games related projects, Dikshit also bluntly told them not to compromise on the quality of work, and said strict punitive action would follow if they don't ensure prescribed standards.

The meeting was attended by all the cabinet ministers of the Delhi government, besides several top officials including chief secretary Rakesh Mehta.

"The contractors who fail to complete the projects by August 31 will not only be penalised but also be blacklisted. At the same time they will have to ensure quality of the works," she said.

''Do not put us to shame. Your little carelessness will bring bad name to the entire nation,'' she reportedly told the contractors.
