Consumer price inflation for agricultural labourers (CPI-AL) and rural labourers (CPI-RL, based on the All-India Consumer Price Indices (base 1986-87 = 100), recorded an increase of 11 points each in June 2024, reaching levels of 7.03 per cent and 7.04 per cent, respectively, data released by the labour ministry showed.

The corresponding figures for the previous month were 7.00 per cent and 7.02 per cent, respectively.

The annual rate of inflation based on the CPI-AL and CPI-RL indices stood at 6.31 per cent and 6.16 per cent, respectively, in June 2023.

While overall inflation rate for agricultural labourers remained more or less unchanged from the previous month, higher prices of food and clothing might have caused the slight increase in inflation rate in June.

However, consumer prices of fuel and light stood lower in June 2024.

For rural labourers the rise in inflation rate was due to the surge in food prices, which waste highest  in June.

The inflation for agricultural and rural labourers has been on the rise since April this year.
