Consumer price inflation for industrial workers static at 5.61% in September

Consumer price inflation for industrial workers based on the All-India consumer price index for industrial workers (CPI-IW) for September 2018 remained stationary at 5.61 per cent, unchanged from its level in August, compared to 2.89 per cent during the corresponding month of the previous year. 

Food price inflation for September 2018 stood at 0.00 per cent against (-) 0.32 per cent of the previous month and 1.30 per cent during the corresponding month of the previous year.
The maximum downward pressure to the change in current index came from food group contributing (-) 0.75 percentage points to the total change. 
At item level, groundnut oil, eggs, fish, poultry (chicken), onion, French beans, gourd, ladies finger, potato, tomato, apple, coconut, sugar, etc are responsible for the decrease in the index. However, this decrease was checked by rice, wheat, wheat atta, cauliflower, peas, banana, tea (readymade), electricity charges, doctor's fee, bus fare, petrol, flowers/flower garlands et, putting upward pressure on the index.
At centre level, Puducherry reported the maximum decrease of 9 points, followed by Goa (7 points). Among others, 5 points decrease was observed in 3 centres, 3 points in 4 centres, 2 points in 3 centres and 1 point each in 11 centres. 
On the contrary, Jharia recorded the maximum increase of 6 points, followed by Nagpur (5 points). Among others, 4 points increase was observed in 2 centres, 3 points in 2 centres, 2 points in 11 centres and 1 point each in 14 centres. The indices remained stationary in the rest of the 24 centres. 
The indices of 37 centres were above All-India levels while in 41 centres the indices were below the national average.
