India's consumer price inflation rises further to 3.18% in June

Consumer price inflation in the country based on the consumer price index increased further to 3.18 per cent in June 2019 from 3.05 per cent in May, provisional figures released today showed.

The inflation based on Consumer Price Index (CPI) was 4.92 per cent in June 2018.
Data released by the Central Statistics Office (CSO) showed that inflation in food basket rose further to 2.17 per cent in June 2019 from 1.83 per cent in May.
The level of inflation is well below the Reserve Bank’s medium-term inflation target, although it continues to rise, opening up the possibility of the RBI scrutiny.
Consumer price inflation for the rural areas increased to 2.21 per cent in June 2019 against 1.86 per cent in May. It was 4.93per cent in June 2018.
Consumer price inflation for the urban areas, however, declined to 4.33 per cent in June 2019 from 4.51 per cent in May. It was 1.56 per cent in June 2018.
Food price inflation for rural areas rose slightly and stood at 0.43 in June 2019 against (-) 0.22 per cent in May. It was 3.66 per cent in June 2018.
Food price inflation for urban areas declined slightly to 5.56 per cent in June 2019 compared with 5.87 per cent in May. It was 1.56 per cent in June 2018.
