India’s core sector industrial production up 3.3% in August

Core sector industrial production in the country based on the combined Index of Eight Core Industries increased by 3.3 per cent (provisional) in August 2022 compared with its level in August 2021 as production of fertilisers, coal, refinery products, steel, cement and electricity increased.

The combined production of the eight selected industries, viz, coal, crude oil, natural gas, refinery products, fertilisers, steel, cement and electricity, comprising 40.27 per cent of the weight of items included in the Index of Industrial Production (IIP) expanded by 9.8 per cent year-on-year (provisional) during April-August 2022-23.
The final growth rate of the Index of Eight Core Industries for May 2022 now stands revised to 19.3 per cent from its provisional level 18.1 per cent.
Among the core sector industries, production of coal, which has a weight of 10.33 per cent in the general Index of Index of Industrial Production (IIP) increased by 7.6 per cent in August 2022 while cumulative production of coal increased by 22.7 per cent during April-August 2022-23.
Crude oil production (weight of 8.98 per cent in IIP) declined by 3.3 per cent in August 2022 while cumulative production of crude oil declined by 1.1 per cent during April-August 2022-23.
Natural gas production (weight of 6.88 per cent in IIP) declined by 0.9 per cent in August 2022 while cumulative production of natural gas increased by 2.6 per cent during April-August 2022-23.
Petroleum refinery production (weight of 28.04 per cent in IIP) increased by 7.0 per cent in August 2022 while cumulative refinery production increased by 10.8 per cent during April-August 2022-23.
Fertiliser production (weight of 2.63 per cent in IIP) increased by 11.9 per cent in August 2022 while cumulative production of fertilizers increased by 11.4 per cent during April-August 2022-23.
Steel production (weight of 17.92 per cent in IIP) increased by 2.2 per cent in August 2022 while cumulative steel production increased by 5.8 per cent during April-August 2022-23.
Cement production (weight of 5.37 per cent in IIP) increased by 1.8 per cent in August 2022 while cumulative cement production increased by 10.6 per cent during April-August 2022-23.
Electricity generation (weight of 19.85 per cent in IIP) increased by 0.9 per cent in August 2022 while cumulative generation of electricity increased by 10.5 per cent during April-August 2022-23.
