India's industrial production vaults 10.4 per cent in August

The index of industrial production (IIP) with base 1993-94 rose 10.4 per cent year-on-year in August 2009 compared to the level in August 2008, quick estimates released by the Central Statistical Organisation (CSO) showed.

The general index of industrial production for August 2009 stood at 292.3.

For the April-August 2009-10 period, the index of industrial production showed a cumulative growth of 5.8 per cent over the corresponding period of the pervious year.

The production indices for the mining, manufacturing and electricity sectors for August 2009 stood at 181.1, 313.0, and 245.1 respectively, with the corresponding growth rates of 12.9 per cent, 10.2 per cent and 10.6 per cent as compared to August 2008.

The three sectors showed cumulative growths of 8.4 per cent, 5.5 per cent and 6.6 per cent respectively, during April-August 2009-10 over the corresponding period of 2008-09, which moved the overall growth in the general index to 5.8 per cent.

In terms of industries, as many as 14 out of the 17 industry groups showed positive growth during August 2009 as compared to the corresponding month of the previous year.
